How are my fellow bookworms doing? 😊 I would like to say this has been a good week for me, but I spent it feeling like I'm melting and I have barely slept. How can someone study/work/blog under a heatwave?! Where I live, is not prepared for these high temperatures (my house is like a greenhouse during the summer). Needless to say, I have spent the days complaining about the hot weather, drinking gallons of water, and trying to read a few pages here and there.
What has been happening in my life:
🌻 I have officially finished the first year of my PhD. 🥳 Now, it is time to start working on my thesis. Hopefully, I will be able to do some work when the temperatures decrease.
🌻 I have also finished playing the original Uncharted trilogy. I will now write an abstract and hopefully it will be accepted (then I can start working on the essay). Also, the last game did remind me of a post that I have been wanting to write for a very long time.
🌻 If you follow me on Twitter, you know my Iago was bitten by what I now think to have been a wasp. He threw up, his heart rate was very high, he was having difficulty breathing, and his paw swelled. He had to take an injection and only then did he start feeling better. Iago is okay now, but it was really scary.
🌻 Binge watched Locke & Key and it's freaking amazing! Now, it's time to rewatch the first season of Timeless.
🌻 I'm proud to say that I finished two books this week (that's huge for me) and I can't wait to share with you how much I loved Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles. 💛

- It might be July, but I finally shared my answers to the Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag (one of my favourite book tags). By the way, if you know of any interesting book tags, please let me know.
- I finished Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova a very long time ago, but only now did I find the words to tell you how much I adored this re-imagining of the Spanish Inquisition and its main character, the fearless Renata Convida.

Are you also under a heat wave? Are you melting just like me?

Congratulations on getting through your first year of your PHD program. I am so relieved to hear Iago is ok. That was a pretty scary situation.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sam. 😘 It was scary because I was not expecting him to have such an allergic reaction. He got sick after, but he's okay now.

That’s great news on your phd, you should be very proud. Glad to here Iago is ok, you must have had such a fright.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
Thank you, Heather. This is the second time one of my cats is bitten, but Gizmo didn't have an allergic reaction, so I was not expecting Iago to have one.

Congrats on finishing your first year of PhD! I’m glad Iago is feeling better. It’s scary when pets get sick. I have no tips for surviving a heatwave. I hate them and just mope around and complain. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
Thank you, Aj. 😊 I hate when pets get sick because they can't tell us what they are feeling (and cats seldom show when they are feeling pain).

Congrats on completely your first year!
ReplyDeleteThank you. 😊

Congratulations and YES this heatwave is really annoying me. My cat wants to be out on the Catio so I let her out there and it's like 101F in the shade so I set a timer and check on her every 15 minutes. She comes in and lays on the kitchen floor to cool off. Then she comes into my office where I'm working to let me know she's ready to go back out for another few rounds of 15 minutes.
ReplyDeleteThank you! My cats dislike hot weather. I feel so bad for them because they don't know where to lay down. They are always searching for the coldest spot.

Congratulations on your first year.
ReplyDeleteI get very lethargic in the heat and am very thankful for AC.
I am glad your Iago is doing okay.
Nice book haul - Enjoy!
Thank you, Martha. I wish I had AC. I can't do anything, but complain when the weather is this hot. Thanks. Iago is back to being his cat-self. 😋

Congratulations on finishing your first year! I hope Iago feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lydia.

Woohoo! Congrats on finishing year one of the PhD!
ReplyDeleteHows the kitty doing? That must've been so scary. :(
I bought an ebook of Thorn not too long ago, I'm looking forward to reading it. Songbirds and Snakes is another one I hope to get to reading at some point.
Thank you, Nicci. 😊 Iago is feeling better - sadly, after this scare, he got sick and had to take medication, but he's fine.
DeleteI hope you love Thorn as much as I did when you have a chance to read it.
Happy readings!
Ah I'm glad Iago is doing well now <3
ReplyDeleteThank you, Annemieke. It was a real fright

Congratulations on completing your first year of the PhD!! I feel you with the heatwave, like no more! It is too much! Glad Iago is okay, too, that must have been so scary! Your birthday book haul looks fabulous, I hope you enjoy them, I can't wait to hear what you think about Songbirds & Snakes!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shannon. 😊 Heatwaves are just awful! And, yes, it was a scary situation. Iago had a really bad allergic reaction.
DeleteThanks! I just can't wait to read Songbirds & Snakes.
Happy readings!
I hope Iago is ok now. Congrats on the first year of PhD out of the way. And the summer is being here in Dubai too. Can't wait for the fall already.
ReplyDeleteHe is okay now. It was a very scary situation. I hope it doesn't happen again. Thank you, Gayathri. 😊 I'm dying for fall to be here too.

Oh no! Do you have air conditioning where you are? I don't know if I could survive summers without it! (I'm weak.) XD I'm glad Iago is feeling better! That's so scary. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteNo air conditioning. My home - and my country in general - is not prepared for heatwaves. 😞 Thank you, Tracy.

Congrats for completion of year one PhD! Hope the next year goes well. You got me curious about Thorn. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteThank you. 😊 Thorn is an amazing book. I hope you give it an opportunity.

Congrats on completing your first year! I really enjoyed Locke & Key as well. It was interesting! Got me wanting to read the comics a little...but I have so many books to read already lol Hope you have a good week!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Molly. 😊 The series Locke & Key also got me wanting to read the comics - I read that they are very different from the show.
