Disclaim: There are a lot more 2020 releases that I can't wait to read. I selected books whose cover had already been released. This is the reason why A Miracle of Roses by Diana Pinguicha (if you haven't added this retelling of a Portuguese folk tale to your TBR pile, you should do it now!) or A Dance With Fate by Juliet Marillier.

Ghost Wood Song, Erica Waters. This book is giving me serious Gothic vibes. I just can't resist to ghosts and dark family secrets. Also, Ghost Wood Song screams House of Salt and Sorrows (one of my favourite books of 2019).
Where Dreams Descend, Janella Angeles. The Phantom of the Opera meets Moulin Rouge?! I don't think I need any more words to explain why I must get my hands on this beautifully-dark book. Unless you want me to gush about the cover.
The Princess Will Save You, Sarah Henning. Can we admire the fierce book cover?! π I have yet to read Henning's previous novels, but I need this knight-in-distress story. I'm loving how she twists the trope.

Unravel the Dusk, Elizabeth Lim. Spin the Dawn was a favourite of mine in 2019 - I've been thinking about re-reading it. I could not be more excited about the sequel (that comes out on my birthday!). I need to know what happens to Maia and Edan after that ending of the first book. It shattered my heart!!!

The Empire of Gold, S.A. Chakraborty. I fell in love with the Daevabad trilogy last Summer, so it's no surprise that The Empire of Gold is a can't wait book of 2020. However, I'm terrified. My sixth sense tells me that the ending will break my heart into tiny pieces. I know Dara is not the most likeable character, but I don't want him to die. Not without experiencing a bit of happiness before re-encountering his sister in the other world.
A War of Swallowed Stars, Sangu Mandanna. After reading A Spark of White Fire, the Celestial Trilogy instantly became a favourite. With curses,
family rivalry, political intrigue, mythical gods and goddesses and beings, sentient spaceships and fate, this series is simply astonishing. Now, I only hope Esmae has the happy ending that she deserves.
Forest of Souls, Lori M. Lee. Isn't this cover stunning? π Forest of Souls is without a doubt on the top of my can't wait books of 2020. I'm very excited to plunge into this dark medieval-ish world "with a magical system *inspired* by Hmong shamanism" (these are Lori's own words).
Star Daughter, Shveta Thakrar. Yes, this another book that caught my attention due to its stunning cover. I've never hidden that I can't resist pretty covers. Nevertheless, it is part of my can't wait books of 2020 because of its enthralling summary. Hindu-mythology and celestial courts? The story will be all kinds of epic!

Mayhem, Estelle Laure. I've grown some fondness for the eighties because of Stranger Things and IT. So, when I saw this book on NetGalley (I didn't even try to request it because I knew my request would be denied), it was love at first sight. I'm ready to go back in time and follow Mayhem's magical and dangerous journey.
Incendiary, Zoraida CΓ³rdova. I can proudly say that I receive an e-ARC for Incendiary! π I no longer have to wait two months to read the tale about a memory thief in a deadly world loosely inspired by the Spanish inquisition.
Lobizona, Romina Garber. My e-ARC request was denied by NetGalley and Edelweiss, but that did not make me less excited about Lobizona - as it usually happens when my requests are denied. Why? I love to learn about other cultures and folk tales and Lobizona is about Argentine folklore. I know nothing about Argentine folklore, so you can imagine how excited I'm.
Seven Deadly Shadows, Courtney Alameda and Valynne E. Maetani. I'm aware that Seven Deadly Sins was released in January (this is one of the few release dates that I memorized), but I haven't got a copy yet. So, I still can't wait to get my hands on this book about yokai demons, a kitsune and death gods.

Spindle and Dagger, J. Anderson Coats. The synopsis of Spindle and Dagger reminded me of Juliet Marillier's novels, an author that you all know that I love with all my heart. So, of course, I added this novel set in medieval Wales to my wishlist without hesitation.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Suzanne Collins. Do I really have to explain why this is one of my can't wait books of 2020? I mean, I'm currently re-reading The Hunger Games. π
The Gilded Ones, Namina Forna. I never expected 2020 to gives us prettier covers than 2019. But I'm so freaking happy that I was wrong! The plot of The Gilded Ones is very intriguing - especially because it doesn't give too much away. I'm glad this book popped up in my Twitter timeline.

Of Curses and Kisses, Sandhya Menon. As soon as I heard that there was a Beauty and the Beast retelling by Sandhya coming out, I dropped everything I was doing to learn everything about it (it wasn't much at the time). I know that I rarely read contemporary novels, but Beauty and the Beast retellings are one of my weaknesses. Just give me all the Beauty and the Beast retellings, okay?
Hunted by the Sky, Tanaz Bhathena. I fear I'm repeating myself, but how can I resist a forbidden romance in a fantasy world inspired by Hindu mythology?
The Sound of Stars, Alechia Dow. When I saw The Sound of Stars, I got pretty excited because it is a dystopia! A dystopian world in which all kinds of art are illegal. I truly hope this means dystopias are coming back. I miss them dearly.
A Wicked Magic, Sasha Laurens. Witches and demons and a cat on the cover. Do I need any more reasons to explain why this is a can't wait book of 2020? π

Deadly Curious, Cindy Anstey. Although I don't talk much about historical fiction, I love it. I read one of Anstey books a few years ago and I quite enjoyed her writing style. When I saw that Deadly Curious was about a girl wanting to be a detective and going against society's conventions, I immediately added it to my wishlist.
Of Silver and Shadow, Jennifer Gruenke. I saw the beautiful cover of Of Silver and Shadows on Twitter. I'm glad that I did because the synopsis of this book is brilliant. Also, the hopeless romantic inside me is super excited about the hate-to-love and forbidden lovers tropes.
Season of the Storm, Elle Cosimano. Star-crossed lovers forced to kill each other because of Gaia's, the Goodness of Earth, ancient rules? How much longer do I have to wait for Season of the Storm?
My Calamity Jane, Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton & Jodi Meadows. Did I just wait two years for My Calamity Jane?! I'm more than ready to meet another brilliant Jane.

Girl, Serpent, Thorn, by Melissa Bashardoust. Girl, Serpent, Thorn is inspired by fairytales and I will always love them. But this book terrifies me. The cover is cute, but books with snakes on the covers is a trend that I'm dying to be over. Snakes scare the hell out of me!!! I'm not even sure I'll be able to pick this book...
The Court of Miracles, by Kester Grant. I've been eyeing this book since it was announced a thousand years ago. There was a moment that I no longer believed The Court of Miracles would see the light of day. But then something magical happened: ARCs began being distributed (not that I received one) which could only mean that The Court of Miracles was finally being released!!!!

Which 2020 book releases are you dying to read?

I am listening to Of Curses and Kisses right now. I don't think I am liking it as much as I liked Menon's WDMR books, but it's good.
ReplyDeleteI’m nervously excited for the new Hunger Games book too. I hope it lives up to the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteAj @ Read All The Things!
I'm excited for so many of these books as well. I just finished Of Curses and Kisses. It's a pretty good Beauty and the Beast retelling. I really liked Menon's characters.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I really must stop reading posts like these as my TBR is exploding!!! And I LOVE that you sorted these books by color! You have an extreme sense of details and it's truly aesthetically pleasing!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful post. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about some of these books. π

Gosh I do not know where to start with your amazing list!! Oh actually I do- I LOVE how you color coordinated it!! So which ones am I NOT excited for would be a more accurate question π I will give you my TOP 3 from your picks: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Mayhem, and ummmm okay I can't there's like a 7-way tie for 3rd haha. But I read The Sound of Stars and LOVED it so I hope you do too (and all of these!!)
