Reading & Blogging Challenges. Third Quarter Update

If my second quarter update came a bit later than I was expecting, what to say about my third quarter of the year update?! I've been working on it since September, but only now did I find the energy to finish it aka work on all the graphics. Anyway, how has the third quarter of the year been reading and blogging-wise? I'm finally ahead of my Goodreads reading challenge and once again I've changed my reading goals for two challenges. Nevertheless, it seems I'm lacking discussion posts. AGAIN!
BEAT THE BACKLIST hosted by @ Novel Knight

Am I still rocking this challenge? Yes, I'm! 😋 As it happened in the last two quarters, most books I read in the last three months were published before 2019 (I read a book published in 2003 and another in 2010). As I mentioned in my previous update, I changed my goal to twenty backlist titles. Since I was able to surpass it again, I've now changed my goal to thirty backlist titles. Only three books behind! I still have to submit some of the titles I've read to the Hogwarts House Challenge and I hope I'll do it very soon.

From the titles I picked to read when I joined Beat the Backlist, so far I read 7 out of 10 (two more books than in my previous update). Will I be able to read the last three before the year ends? 🤔

  • A Place Called Perfect by Helena Duggan;
  • A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Mandanna;
  • Creatures of Will & Temper by Molly Tanzer;
  • Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle;
  • Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young;
  • State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury;
  • The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White;
  • The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill;
  • The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James;
  • The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw.

DANCING WITH FANTASY AND SCI-FI hosted by Annemieke @ A Dance With Books

As in my previous update, I'm only sharing my Fantasy Bingo Card because as usual I'm really bad at reading science-fiction novels - as before, in the last three months, I've only added one more book to the sci-fi section, which means I read 3 out of 20 books. Unless a miracle happens, I'll not be reading 20 sci-fi books. Regarding fantasy, so far I've stamped 13 out of 20 spaces (as I mentioned in my last update,  maybe I read a few more books that I can add to these prompts and if so, I'll add them in my last challenge update).

DYSTOPIA READING CHALLENGE hosted by Brittani @Hope, Faith & Books

I'm not giving up! I love dystopias and I'll be reading more dystopias before the year ends. That's a promise!!! Do you hear me? I want my rebel badge and I'll have it - especially now that I'm thinking about writing an essay on YA dystopias.

RETELLING READING CHALLENGE hosted by Tracy @Cornerfolds

I'm also still rocking this challenge. I can proudly say that I read 17 out of 15 books and, so far, six of them have been reviewed. Since I not only surpassed the Elemental Witch level - I'm a High Fae - I think I'm now aiming at the Fairest of them All level. Even if I don't reach the final level, I'll have reached out my goal for this challenge when the year end.

Regarding the bingo card, 11 spaces have been filled. I'm staring at the spaces and I'm now wondering if there aren't some other books that I read that I could classify as retellings. I'll see it in my last update...

  • The Bride of the Blue Wind by Victoria Goddard;
  • Dream Keeper by Amber R. Duell;
  • A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Mandanna;
  • Corpse & Crown by Alisa Kwitney;
  • The House With Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson;
  • Den of Wolves by Juliet Marillier;
  • The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White;
  • Little Witches by Leigh Dragoon;
  • Five Midnights by Ann Dávila Cardinal;
  • The Surface Breaks by Louise O'Neill;
  • Empress of All Seasons by Emiko Jean;
  • The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden;
  • House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig;
  • A House of Rage and Sorrow by Sangu Mandanna;
  • City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty;
  • The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave;
  • The Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle.

HARRY POTTER BOARD GAME READING CHALLENGE hosted by Naura @ The Perks of Being Noura - After a lot of thought, I'm now officially giving up this challenge.

BOOK BLOG DISCUSSION CHALLENGE hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight

I'm a little bit ashamed of how many discussion posts I shared in the past three months: two book-related discussion post and both were book tags. I did start a few drafts on book-related discussion topics, but I didn't find the time to complete them (if you have read my Sunday Post updates or follow me on Twitter, you know that I'm having a very difficult time scheduling my life/time). All I can do now is hope that I find time to finish the posts I began, and then share them before the year ends - there are two topics that I'm really dying to talk about with you. Here are my two discussion posts, if you haven't read them yet:

  4. I feel you with not being bothered to complete a post due to the graphics. Why are they so much effort to sort out in a post? I think you're doing really well with your challenges. Usually, by this point I've lost interest in the challenges I've chosen at the start of the first year and instead have started planning for next year.

    1. If reviews are difficult to write, then the graphics are a living hell. Photoshop gives me so many headaches! Thank you. I'm surprised how I didn't give up (I always give up after the first three months).

      Happy readings! 😊

  5. I'm doing surprisingly well on my challenges this year! Although, I need to get a few more discussion posts in before the end of December. I was doing one every month and then I got behind! It looks like you're doing really well, too. :)

  7. I really loved the Goblins of Bellwater when it came out. It's a neat new adult book. And I also really really loved The Loneliest Girl in the Universe. There is something special about a book where a character is alone and yet you're on the edge of your seat. ❤️

    1. I must confess that I had some issues with Globlins of Bellwater. I kinda felt women were objectified by men... I'm dying to read The Loneliest Girl in the Universe, but I think it will have to wait for 2020.

      Happy readings! 😊

  8. I'm not doing so great on my challenges lately, so you don't have to feel bad about your performance in the Discussion Challenge---I think of challenges as encouragement. Nothing wrong with a little encouragement! :-)

  9. You're doing well with all of these! I love the re-tellings challenge! I think that's one of the few I'll do next year. I signed up for way too many things this year and want to do less next year but I still want to do some challenges...

    1. Thank you Nicci. I'm definitely signing up one again for the retelling challenge. I love it a lot because it gives me an excuse to be always reading and fangirling about retellings. Happy readings! 😊
