Cats and books. Books and cats. There's something better than such a match? 😸 I saw this fluffy tag at Inge @OfWonderland, two weeks ago, and I immediately added it to my tags-I-must-join list. Yes, I have list for everything. I wanted to share my answers last Saturday, not only because it's Caturday day, but also my not-so-little Iago turned three. Shall we look at some cat and book fluffiness?

"PURR" AS CATS DO THIS WHEN THEY’RE HAPPY OR RELAXED: What is the book that makes you happiest or relaxed?
Most book makes me happy and relaxed. I mean, isn't this the point of reading? To feel happy and relaxed? At least, I do read to feel happy and relaxed, especially after some cray-cray days. As I wrote in this discussion post, books are a perfect escape from the real world. When the feelings that sadness and anxiety encompass get
to be a little too much to handle, books become my safe haven. I'm aware that this answer just became too heavy, so here it's a cute picture of Iago dressed up like one of our favourite wizards.

SLEEP: What is a book that put you to sleep or was just boring?

Before anything else: this is just my personal opinion! I'm not bashing the author nor the book nor everyone who loves it. Okay? So, here it goes: Uprooted by Naomi Novik. *listening to all the gasps worldwide* I tried to read it. I swear that I did. But a month later after starting it, I had yet to make a dent on the book. I felt I was going through a reading slump because of this book! Nevertheless, I haven't yet given up on reading Uprooted yet. Maybe one day I'll pick again my pretty edition that seems now to be worth hundreds of euros...

TWITCH WHILE DREAMING: Have you ever dreamt of a book you read?
Since the answer is "no" and that means the answer for this prompt it too short, I'm leaving you with another cute photo of Iago (yes, I've three more cats, but today is all about him).

SEEMS TO PLAY NICE…UNTIL THE CLAWS ARE OUT: Which book had the biggest plot twist(s)?

I'm a lover of plot twists - at least, I'm a lover of plot twists that makes sense. I kinda dislike when a story is filled of plot twists just for the shocking value. One of the books that I've read so far this year with an amazing plot twist is The Wicked Deep by Shea Earnshaw. To tell the truth, everything about this book is AMAZING! The plot, the characters and the writing. 💜 Instead of repeating myself over and over again about why this book is everything and you must read it, here it's my short review.

CUDDLES: Which book character would you give a hug to?

My go to go answer is Laia and Elias from An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. These two have gone through so much. They have lost friends and family; they have lost their home; they found themselves in the middle of a war; their love for each other is condemned! Book four needs to come out very soon because I need to know how their story wraps up. Something tells me my heart will be shattered in a thousand pieces, but I must know if Laia and Elias survive.

CATNIP: What's a book that made you have warm and fuzzy feels?

Don't you love an easy question? Books that make me have warm and fuzzy feels are usually books that make me happy and every time that I have to pick a book that make me happy, I pick a contemporary book. Since this was the book that introduced me the YA contemporary genre (I think) and years later I still think about all the fluffiness and adorableness of the story and characters, I must go with To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han.

CAT BREEDS: What are your favourite books?
Is this actually a free pass to ramble about all the thousand books I love with all my heart?! I'm sure any respectable bookworm would be happy to know all about these thousands of books, but I fear I'd be exhausted by the time I wrote the very last word. 😋 To keep it simple (even if it meant struggling with my undecided-self), I narrowed down this list to my favourite books of 2019. So, here they are:

GETTING THE CAT: How did you find your favourite book(s).
Where does a book dragon feels at home? In a bookshop! Or in any place that this creature might be surrounded by books. I discovered Heart's Blood by Juliet Marillier in the shelves of a bookshop. I discovered Harry Potter and the Philosophical Stone by J.K. Rowling, the book that introduced me to reading, in a bookshop. I wish I could still find my favourite books in bookshops since I started reading in English and not having to order them online. It feels like some of the magic was lost...

BEING IN PLACES THEY SHOULDN’T: Least favourite clichés.
You must already know what I'm going to answer, right? One of my least favourite book clichés is love triangles. It seems that it can be found in every single YA book for drama purposes. I'm trying to be a nicer person, so I'll say that when this trope is done well, as in The Hunger Games series, I can tolerate it, but I hate when the suitors share the same personality and the main character acts silly because her heart is torn in two.

FINAL QUESTION - THE GOOD OLD CARDBOARD BOX: Most underrated book series.
A few months ago, I started a thread of hidden gems on Twitter (I tried to find the tweet and link it to this prompt, but with the new update, I seem to get lost every time I open a tweet) because some books deserve a lot more hugs than they are receiving. Here are some books (I think they are all part of book series) that deserve so much more love.

I'm tagging (apologies if you're not cat lovers):

Your cat is adorable! I especially love the picture where you dressed him up in glasses and a Gryffindor scarf. 💛
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, I wasn't a fan of Uprooted either. We can be black sheep together. Baaaaahh!
Iago says thank you. I'm still surprised that he didn't murder me in my sleep after I dressed him up in glasses and a Gryffindor scarf. =P
DeleteYAY! Let's be black sheep together. =D

DeleteStop doing these cute book tags? I am so doing this one because cats (although, yes, I am slow getting to it). Same with books which make me happy, there are some which make me happier than others, though. I'm part of the world gasping at you finding Uprooted boring, but I'll allow it. And how have I only read one of your favourite books and I DNF-ed that!
ReplyDeleteAhahah 🤣 When you do this one, please let me know. Cats and books are a such a perfect match! I solemnly swear that I'm planning on giving Uprooted another opportunity. Not sure when, but I'll do it.
DeleteHappy readings! 😉
Awww thanks for tagging me Tania! I LOVE cats and had one growing up. Now I live with others and no pets but I sooooo would if I could. Iago is gorgeous, I can see why you love him so!! I will have to check out The Wicked Deep, it sounds like my kind of book. And The Girl King, I'm not sure how I missed that one. And I will share a secret with you... I tried Uprooted and couldn't finish it. GAHHH its so sad when you can't jump on the hype bandwagon! ❤️
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine living without pets. Hope you have a chance to adopt a little one in the future. 😊 Ahaha, your secret is safe with me. I really wanted to jump on the hype bandwagon, but I just couldn't...
DeleteHappy readings! 😉
I totally agree with you that Spark of White Fire doesn't get all the attention it deserves. And I absolutely adore your cat pics!!
