Reading & Blogging Challenges. First Quarter Update

I can't believe the first three months of the year have already come and go. They weren't really good months for me, but I hate to see time going by so fast. I want to do a thousand different things and I'm already freaking out over the fact that there will be no time to do them. *takes a deep breath* In the past three months, I've been slowly going through the challenges I decided to join. I haven't read as much as I expected to, but, hopefully, I'll get a lot more involved in these challenges in the next months. If you are part of any of the challenges mentioned bellow, let me know. 😊
BEAT THE BACKLIST hosted by @ Novel Knight

This challenge is actually going better than I expected. Most books I've read in the past three months have been published before 2019 (only two of my readings were published this year and they were review copies) When I joined this challenge I was hoping to read ten backlist titles and I reached that goal this week. So, I changed my goal to fifteen backlist titles I'm still part of the Hogwarts House Mini Challenge, but I've yet to submit some of the books I've read, but I'm hoping to it very soon. I really don't want to fail my team like I did last year.

From the titles I picked to read when I joined Beat the Backlist, so far I read 4 out of 10 (I'm currently reading The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White).

  • A Place Called Perfect by Helena Duggan;
  • A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Mandanna;
  • Creatures of Will & Temper by Molly Tanzer;
  • Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle;
  • Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young;
  • State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury;
  • The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White;
  • The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill;
  • The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James;
  • The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw.

DANCING WITH FANTASY AND SCI-FI hosted by Annemieke @ A Dance With Dragons

I've been awful at updating the bingo cards. 🙈 And I've been awful at reading more science-fiction novels (so far I've only finished one and started reading another one last Friday). I've read 5 out of 20 books in the fantasy section and 1 out of 20 in the sci-fi section. I hope I can fill, at least, one row (as I told you before, that's all I need to feel successful).

DYSTOPIA READING CHALLENGE hosted by Brittani @Hope, Faith & Books

I'm really behind on this challenge. I read only one dystopia (Whiter by Lauren DeStefano) in the past three months, but I've yet to review it (and the book only counts if I review it). I still want my Revel badge, so I need to hurry up. If you are looking for dystopias, take a look at this thread I began on Twitter. You will find many interesting and refreshing recommendations - there're some indie books that definitely deserve some love.

RETELLING READING CHALLENGE hosted by Tracy @Cornerfolds

This is another challenge that is going well. I read 6 out of 15 books and I've two of them have been reviewed. I'm still aiming at the Elemental Witch level, but I'm hoping I can reach the next level. Regarding the bingo card, 4 spaces have been filled. There are a few spaces that I haven't figured out which book I can read to fill it, but I'll take a look at the Goodreads group.

  • The Bride of the Blue Wind by Victoria Goddard;
  • Dream Keeper by Amber R. Duell;
  • A Spark of White Fire by Sangu Mandanna;
  • Corpse & Crown by Alisa Kwitney;
  • The House With Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson;
  • Den of Wolves by Juliet Marillier.

HARRY POTTER BOARD GAME READING CHALLENGE hosted by Naura @ The Perks of Being Noura - I'll start this one on Summer.
BLOG ALL ABOUT IT hosted by @ The Herd Presents

I don't know what happened to this challenge because I can no longer find the official announce which means I've no idea of the theme for each month. I guess I'll be withdrawing from it.

BOOK BLOG DISCUSSION CHALLENGE hosted by Nicole @ Feed Your Fiction Addiction and Shannon @ It Starts at Midnight

Due to circumstances out of my control,  I did not share a discussion post in February. Maybe I can make up for it April and write two discussion post (but I must confess I'm without ideas for engaging discussion posts; I really want to write something that people will want to share their thoughts). Anyway, in January I shared my thoughts on the perks of being an international reader. This month, I did some research on Swoony Romance Tropes.

  1. You are doing really well with the retelling challenge. You will definitely complete that one. And, way to go on the backlist challenge. I am doing well on my challenges, but stuck at the same place as last year with the AtoZ challenge.

    1. *fingers crossed that I can keep up with the reading challenges* I'd love to participate on the AtoZ challenge, but I feel I'd get stuck on so many letters. =P

  2. I am forever admiring of anyone who takes on reading challenges. They tend to intimidate me, I think!

    1. Thank you. But I fear my ambitions will fall short (I'll never be able to read so many books). So far, I've enjoyed most of the books I picked for these challenges (Dream Keeper was actually my only huge disappointment). Happy readings! ;)

    1. To read blacklist titles is my main concern. I truly hope I can decrease my never ending TBR pile.

      Happy readings! ;)

  5. oooh you have a ton or retellings i've never heard of! I will check them out. I don't sweat challenges that I thought I would be engaged in and end up...not. I feel like the goal was to help me and not stress me out. It seems there are areas that are more important to you than others. Good luck! Reading backlist books is something I like to concentrate on too.

    1. If you read any retelling that interests you from my list, let me know. :) The most important about joining challenges is to have fun and not stress out about them. That's what I'm trying to do.

      Happy readings! ;)
