And the Books Came Tumbling Down. Autumn Reads

Cozy nights wrapped around a fluffy blanket, drinking a warm tea and reading a good book with a cat (or two) sleeping on my feet screams Autumn perfection to me. I believe this is the favourite reading season for many bookworms. After all, this is the ideal season for reading long stories with intricate plots and enthralling worlds. It's a season for mysteries, ghosts and nightmarish monsters, and all the magical places that give anyone a bad case of wanderlust. Well, I guess I live in the Autumn all year long. To celebrate the arrival of this magical season, today I'm sharing with you some books that I believe to be perfect Autumn reads.

The Archived by Victoria Schwab. Ghost stories and Autumn are a match made in heaven - or if you prefer match made in hell. The Archived has such an unique concept regarding ghosts. After someone dies, she or he becomes an History and is kept on the shelves of the Archive. The ghosts are books and the Archive is a bookshop. Deadly books, but still books. How freaking awesome is that?

More reasons to read The Archived:
  • The writing is pure magic;
  • Eerie atmosphere;
  • Doors that open to creepy and dangerous halls;
  • Wesley aka Wes aka another book crush that ruins my romantic life. I don't even care that he wears guyliner;
  • The sequel is a thousand times better and that doesn't happen often.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco. Have I ever told you how obsessed I'm with this book series? I absolutely love everything about it! The characters, the spooky atmosphere, the dissected bodies and vicious murders. Apologize my twisted mind. Anyway, my obsession is the first reason why this series made this list, but I also picked it because the story is set in the Autumn.

Also,
  • Audrey Rose defies the social conventions of the Victorian society. She studies forensic science and she isn't afraid of getting her hands dirty even if it isn't socially accepted for a young lady to cut open corpses;
  • Lots of flirty-bantering. Well, Thomas flirts and Audrey Rose banters;
  • Creepy settings! Looking for murderers in the dead of night on foggy streets and labs decorated of jars with human organs equals to a lot of creepiness;
  • All the Gothic feelings!
  • A serial killer on the loose. Once again, apologize my twisted mind.

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. Have you already seen the gorgeous special edition of Six of Crows that will be released next month? Red-sprayed edges and the cover is to die for. 😍 If you haven't ordered it yet, you can do it here (unashamedly promoting my affiliate link)

Since I wrote my Six of Crows review two years ago, here it's a quick bullet points list on why you should read it:
  • An action packed heist with jaw-dropping plot twists;
  • The Dregs.Who can resist these moral ambiguous characters?
  • Inej. I love the Wraith. She is such a strong character who keeps her faith in such a dark world after everything she went through. *hugging Inej*;
  • Waffles!
  • If you end up loving the book, there's a sequel and the Grishaverse is huge.

Happy belated release to The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossener which I'm still reading after receiving an e-ARC from NetGalley. *covers face in shame* Even though the title has "winter" on it, I'm getting so many Autumn vibes from this story. Probably because of all the food that keeps being mentioned. To me, Autumn means warm drinks and home-made food.

I haven't read much of the story yet, but I believe these are great reasons to buy a copy as quick as possible:
  • It's inspired by Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti and by East European fairytales;
  • SHAPE-SHIFTERS! And more shall I not say;
  • Again, food!

Have you read any of the books mentioned? If so, which ones have you read?
Loved? Hated? Any favourites?
Which books give you Autumn vibes?

HAPPY AUTUMN!

  5. I’m pretty sure I live in autumn all year long. Spooky stories are everything. I need to read all of the Schwab books on this list. I’ll catch up on her backlist someday.

  6. I really loved the Six of Crows duology when I read it. The first two books of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series are great too. I can't wait to read the third one this fall.

  7. Love it! There are just some books which are better suited to the autumn months. I know some people embrace spooky reads but for me it's book which make you want to get lost in them which I want. That's not something you can predict will happen when picking up a book but I do find I tend to want to read series or fantasy reads this time of year just because you get sucked into a whole world. I also often get the urge to reread Harry Potter.
