Monthly Wrap-Up. January

Goodbye, January! πŸ₯³ Usually, the first month of the new year goes very slowly, but I have got to say that January has gone by pretty quickly. Just yesterday, I was celebrating the arrival of the new year, and now it is February -- and I'm worried because I haven't finished a single book, nor completed a paper I will be presenting very soon, nor updated my blog regularly as I expected.

What I've been up in January:

🌻 I read six books, and two of them were five-stars readings. Six books is a considerable number for someone who had not been able to read a book since November.
🌻 Did I share with you that I finally won a PhD Research Studentship? Because I did! πŸŽ‰ And, this week, I received my signed contract. I will start in May.
🌻 Regarding research, I submitted two new abstract proposals for events -- one will take place in Dublin, so I really hope my abstract is accepted. Sadly, I had to withdraw from the Uncharted book project. Many people were no longer going to submit their essays, and I would not be able to write a 10k words one. I still hope to write and publish my essay on Posthumanism in the franchise.
🌻 I'm once again addicted to Sims 4. I'm trying the Not So Berry challenge -- not that I will be able to complete it because 1) I don't have the patience and 2) I do not have all the required expansions.
🌻 Work, work, and more work...

This is what happens when you get yourself a Kobo gift card. πŸ˜‹ I got myself Big Girl Small Town by Michelle Gallen, Queen by Candice Carty-Williams, Yolk by Mary H. K. Choi, The Watchers by A.M. Shine, The Snow Song by Sally Gardner, and The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Most of these books are outside my comfort zone -- yes, some are spooky tales with Gothic vibes, but most are contemporary novels, which is not what I read. I'm really excited to give them a try.

How was your January? How many news books made their way into your bookshelf?

  2. Congrats on the PhD Research thing! I am not entirely sure what it entails but that sounds very fancy and exciting, so I am very happy for you! I feel you about January flying by, too. I feel like I got almost nothing done, and now it's February and I am woefully behind. Glad you had a good reading month, too! I want to get back into The Sims, but again, time! Hope you enjoy your new books, too!

  4. It's strange that January both dragged and flew by. I'm wondering where that first month went. Yay for winning a PhD Research Studentship! That's awesome as I know you'd been working towards that for a while. I go through phases with Sims too, I don't think I've ever finished any legacy i start, I don't have the focus and am impressed with people who do.
