The blog has been a little bit slow lately, but it's for a very good reason (I'll be sharing all about very soon). Because I didn't want my little corner to look like it's on hiatus, I compiled a short list of YA retellings coming out in the second half of the year so that you can save money to get on day on the releasing day or to add some more pre-orders to your list. 😜 I confess I was expecting this list to be longer, but the second half of the year doesn't seem to have many retellings coming out.😢
This will be a very short post, because, as I mentioned above, I didn't
find many YA retellings coming out in the next six months. However, I might have missed something. If you know about a YA retelling that I haven't mentioned, please let me know, so that I can add to this list (and then to my wishlist and then to my buying list).

House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A.Craig. A dark retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Sea Witch Rising by Sarah Henning. Inspired by The Little Mermaid (sequel to Sea Witch, which I still must read).
Wild Savage Stars by Kristina Pérez. Inspired by the legend of Tristan and Isolda.
Ever Alice by H.J. Ramsay. Inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Tiger Queen by Annie Sullivan. Inspired by Frank Stockton’s short story “The Lady, or the Tiger?”
The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millweed Hargrave. Inspired by the Gothic novel Dracula by Bram Stoker.
The Magnolia Sword: A Ballad of Mulan by Sherry Thomas. Based on the legend of Hua Mulan.
His Hideous Heart, edited by Dahlia Alder. A collection of thirteen stories that reimagine Edgar Allan Poe's most unsettling tales.

Coral by Sara Ella. Inspired by The Little Mermaid (so sad my e-ARC request was denied).
The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White. A reimagining of the Arthurian legend.

From fairytale retellings to Gothic reimaginings, the second half of the year will bring some exciting reimagined tales with beautiful covers. Which retelling coming out in the second half of the year are you most excited about? What is your favourite retelling? Which story would you like to be retold?

House of Salt and Sorrows and The Deathless Girls sound so amazing! I'll be marking those down. Thanks for this list!

I'm very excited about those two dark retellings. As a matter of fact, I'm so happy with all the dark retellings coming out this year.
DeleteHappy readings! ;)
I love the cover for The Magnolia Sword. I am actually reading a retelling this week, Beau & Bett, which is a Beauty and the Beast story. We don't get as many retellings in the contemporary category, so I'm excited, and I have loved the author's previous books.
ReplyDeleteThe cover of The Magnolia Sword is gorgeous. *.* I'll definitely have to take a look at that retelling, even though I don't read many contemporaries, because I adore Beauty and the Beast retellings.
DeleteHappy readings! ;)
I didn't know there was a sequel to Sea Witch coming out. Cool!
ReplyDeleteAlways happy to spread the word. Happy readings! ;)
DeleteI have Ever Alice, but haven't started it yet! It has an August release date, so I was trying to get some of my other review copies first. I'm really looking forward to The Guinevere Deception, House of Salt and Sorrows, and Coral!

I noticed that Ever Alice was on NetGalley for request, but, somehow, I resisted the urge to click on the request button. =P

I had the pleasure of getting an ARC of House of Salt and Sorrows - HIGHLY recommend! I loved it!

So jealous! =P I still haven't lost hope of getting my hands on an e-ARC of House of Salt and Sorrows, even if the release date is fast approaching.

I feel like I haven;t seen quite so many retellings coming out lately but I can safely say every single one of these is new to me so maybe I just haven't been paying attention. I can see a couple that are piquing my interest so I'll have to check these out.
ReplyDeleteCompared to other years, there aren't many YA retelling coming out. :( I found some in the adult category that I'm also excited about, but there were not enough to make a list.

I'm such a big fan of retellings. I love Edgar Allen Poe, so I'll have to keep my eye out for His Hideous Heart.

I feel His Hideous Heart is going to be AMAZING!!! Happy readings! ;)
DeleteI AM SO EXCITED FOR HOUSE OF SALT AND SORROWS! ... ... Okay I've calmed down. 12 dancing princesses is my favorite fairy tale and the one other retelling I loved. So I'm expecting the same thing here. I've on the fence about Sea Witch Rising because I wasn't that thrilled with Sea Witch but I do love the idea of a retelling of The Little Mermaid... but is this better than the first one?! ❤️ Hahaha great list... I'm looking at The Deathless Girls now! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIf you love The Twelve Dancing Princesses, you should take a look at Juliet Marillier's Wildwood Dancing. It's a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses blended with Romanian vampire folk tales.
DeleteI have yet to read Sea Witch... I've read some not-so-thrilled reviews, but maybe Sea Witch Rising will be better.
Happy readings! ;)
